Keynote Summary:
Topics will include: OSME’s mission, mandate, and services; the procurement strategies for goods and services; the buyandsell.gc.ca website (our one-stop government procurement portal to simplify access to federal procurement information); market analysis of spend data; as well as, the Canadian Innovation Commercialization Program (CICP). This presentation will help provide a setting for participants to comment on current procurement activities, raise issues and offer valuable advice on proposed or upcoming initiatives.
Speaker Bio:
Shereen Benzvy Miller, M.A., LL.B is a human rights lawyer by training and inclination. She joined the federal public service in the late 1990s when she was recruited by the Correctional Service of Canada. She then joined Public Works and Government Services Canada as the Director General of the Office of Small and Medium Enterprise (OSME) in 2008. She is currently also Acting Director General of the Client Engagement Sector.
Shereen is very active in supporting the 2.3 million small and medium Canadian enterprises (SMEs). The Government recognizes that they are the engines of the Canadian economy, responsible for the creation of most new jobs. Shereen and her staff at OSME advocate on behalf of SMEs and are committed to ensuring that SMEs have fair and open access to government procurement opportunities.
Her two sectors are dedicated to engaging the supplier community and other government departments. They focus on improving the access to federal procurement by reducing procurement barriers, contributing to the government’s e-strategy initiatives, simplifying the contracting process, providing training and education to other government departments and SMEs wishing to do business with the government, collaborating to improve procurement policies and best practices and working with SMEs to ensure their concerns are brought forward and heard.
